AMERICAN RECOVERY and REINVESTMENT ACT SUMMARY
The US Treasury Department is now issuing Solar Grants equal to 30% of the cost of Solar projects.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was signed by President Obama on February 17, 2009. Key factors of the stimulus package benefit Solar and those who are considering a solar installation this year and in 2010. More than ever, now is the time to GO SOLAR.
Projects installed within 2009 thru 2010 who are eligible for *depreciation or *amortization can receive a 30% up front Cash Grant instead of the 30% Tax Credit. The U. S. Treasury Department will administer the grant program and is required to pay out each grant within 60 days of the installation. An eligible grant recepient is not subject to taxation on the grant. Every commercial customer qualifies for the program within these two years or until the grant fund is 100% expensed by the U. S. Treasury.
Installations completed before 2009 can claim a *50% bonus depreciation expence. Available for Corporate tax filers only. The 50% balance can then be *depreciated as an expense according to the *5-year MACRS schedule.
A cap placed on Solar water heating has been lifted, making it eligible for the full 30% tax credit. Grants are not available for this program.
* Please refer with your tax accountant / CPA / tax professional to properly structure the following:
1. ITC (Investment Tax Credits) purchase with tax benefits
2. 50% Special Bonus Depreciation
3. 5 Year Accelerated Depreciation MACRS

Note: We cannot give tax advice. Please consult your tax professional on all solar tax incentives.
